Extruded aluminium profiles are commonly used to make structural frames in automation and production lines. Suppliers provide these aluminium profiles in extended lengths, usually ranging from 2 to 3 metres. Companies utilizing these profiles then cut them to the required lengths, producing offcuts. Typically, these offcuts are collected and shredded for recycling.
The 4545 stool is made from offcuts of 4545 aluminium profiles which would otherwise be shredded for recycling. To accommodate the odd and short lengths of the offcuts, they are stacked and held together by off-the-shelf connectors. As such, the only tool required to assemble the stool is an Allen key, making it accessible for anyone to build.
